Under Georgia law, a person commits the offense of prostitution when he or she performs or offers or consents to perform a sexual act for money or other items of value. Prostitution is a misdemeanorthat is subject to a fine and jail time. The fine can be increased to $2,500.00 in addition to any other punishment if the sexual act is committed within 1,000 feet of any school, public place of worship, or playground.
